Eyemelt sells downloads in two formats, CBZ and PDF, each format has its advantages and disadvantages. A file in CBZ format is basically a file full of images which has been compressed into a single file and renamed with an extension that will allow it to work with most comic book reader software. The pluses of the CBZ file are smaller file sizes and, when used with decent comic book reader software, better performance on most systems than PDF files. A PDF file is an open file format developed by Adobe Systems. A PDF file is also a compressed set of images with specific types of tags that compress into a single file. PDF files are larger and perform a little slower than CBZ files. However because of the popularity of the format almost every computer comes with some sort of PDF reader pre-installed. With both formats you will need some kind of reader software to read files sold on Eyemelt. For CBZ's we can recommend CDisplay (for windows users) or Comical (for MAC OS X users). Both are available as free downloads from their developers. For Mac OS X users we can also HIGHLY recommend Comic Book Lover which is by far the best comic book reader software we have seen. It has a very slick, ITunes like interface which displays the covers of all of your downloadable files, reads both CBZ and PDF files and has a host of organizational tools that will make your digital comic book reading experience pleasurable. |
